Course PVT3-01: Understanding Photovoltaics – Technical Training for Non-Technicians
In this course, participants with little or no technical experience can develop an understanding for PV technology so that they can assess PV projects from a technical perspective. The course covers planning, installation, maintenance, quality management and monitoring of grid-connected and stand-alone PV systems and includes a survey of potential applications. It combines theory with practical training in RENAC’s Training Center.

Content
Duration of the course: 2 days
- The course begins with an introduction to the most important physical and electrical fundamentals, and the technical terms that are relevant for understanding the technology.
- The components of a system - from the cell via the module to the inverter, their characteristics and functioning - are explained. In addition, the course covers the basics of the topics: installation, mounting, grounding, lightning protection, commissioning, monitoring and maintenance.
- An introduction to the economic viability of a grid-connected photovoltaic system rounds off the theoretical part of the course.

Purpose
This course teaches the technical fundamentals of photovoltaics to participants who have little or no technical background.
- At the end of the two-day course you will have gained a good overview of the various components of a photovoltaic system, their functioning and specifics.
- Through the practical training you will have developed a better understanding of the technology.
- You will understand the importance of selecting the right components, correct installation and the overriding significance of the location for PV systems. In this way you will have gained important guidelines for the assessment of PV projects.
Target group
It is aimed at business people, advisers, consultants, employees of banks, financial institutions and insurance companies, sales representatives, lawyers and other professionals who need an insight into the workings of photovoltaics for their daily work.
go to topRequirements
No specialized technical knowledge is required to follow the course.
go to topAdvantages
- Overview of the relevant photovoltaic technologies and system components
- Rapid learning of knowledge that can be practically applied from the theory in a compact course
- "Hands-on" training in our well-equipped Training Center in Berlin
- Work with modules and inverters and install modules on our "indoor roof"
- Tutors actively involved in the business, who can explain the current state of play and trends
- You will learn with the latest software programs for the planning and design of PV systems
Exercises
- The practical training includes the building of a complete PV system as well as exercises on special training equipment.
- In particular measurements are undertaken to explore how the module characteristics depend on temperature fluctuations as well as on direction and angle of the module.
Speakers
- Frank Jackson, RENAC
- Tina Völker, RENAC
Soft- and hardware
To get a basic insight into the design of plants, you will undertake tasks in our computer booth using with the standard design software PV*Sol.
