Training on Financing Renewable Energy Technologies
RCREEE stands for “Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency” and is an independent think tank with ten member states dedicated to the promotion of renewable energies and energy efficiency in the MENA region. Participants from eight RCREEE member states attended a five day course for renewable energy financing in Beirut-Lebanon in October 2010. The training provided the participants a comprehensive and deep insight about financing alternatives as well as the sources of finance available to project developers. It addressed the key factors within a renewable energy project to create conditions of financial viability in order to achieve a successful financing. Further objectives were to understand the different risk profiles and financing needs of the different technologies covered (Wind, Photovoltaic and Concentrating Solar Power). Project Finance as structured financing for large projects was an important component of the training. Practical trainings provided participants the necessary skills for real life situations and created an understanding of the crucial points and challenges. Best practices and lessons learned from other regions that can be applied in the MENA region were also covered.
