Testing Solar Thermal Energy
The RENAC Training Center houses several rigs for demonstrating how a solar thermal system works. Participants can actively familiarize themselves with the systems by fitting components, mounting collectors, fault-finding and going through the commissioning process. This practical knowledge is essential for the successful installation of reliable and long-lasting solar thermal systems.
The following exercises are available:
- Mounting solar thermal collectors on a mock roof (surface area around 10 m²)
- Exchanging system components such as air vents, safety valves, pumps, sensors, etc. with different types/models
- Controlling system parameters such as pressure, flow rate, temperature
- Antifreeze liquid testing
- Controller installation and operation
- Practice with different pipe connections
- Controller commissioning
- System commissioning
- System (collector and store) sizing and determination of system yield
- Fault-finding and trouble-shooting
