Lecturers

Albrecht Tiedemann, RENAC
Current position:
Albrecht Tiedemann is a director at the Renewables Academy (RENAC) AG since 2009. He manages the CapREG Program “Capacity Development on Renewable Energy and Grid Integration” for Professionals from Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Mexico, Peru and Ecuador working in the public and private energy sector. He is responsible for Blended e-Learning seminars (renewable energy and grid integration) and works as a trainer for wind energy (resource assessment, technology, hybrid wind/PV micro grids and wind farm economics) and for grid integration of renewables (balancing power and capacity credit calculation, short term power forecast for wind and solar). Mr Tiedemann moderates and chairs panel discussions, workshops, seminars and conferences.

Professional experience:
From 2003 to 2009 he was Project Director at the German Energy Agency (dena) GmbH and there he worked as a Consultant for the German Federal Ministry of Economics & Technology, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, the European Commission and enterprises in the energy sector. Furthermore, he was the Chairman of Offshore Wind Standing Committee of the Federal government and the coastal Länder as well of the Forum Offshore Wind Energy and Nature Conservation. Mr. Tiedemann has been executively involved in the integration of renewable energies into the German energy supply system and in conducting strategic analysis for the German energy sector (German grid-study I and II until 2020 and 2030).
From 1989 to 2003 he worked as scientific assistant for the Federal Environmental Agency of Germany where he was responsible for developing environmental friendly technologies.

Education:
He holds a degree as “Engineer of Environmental Protection Technology” from the Technical University Berlin.
Anja Haupt, RENAC
Current position:
Since 2013 Anja is mainly active as a project director in RENAC’s bioenergy department. She has been designing seminars, developing curricula and training materials, and conducting the overall project management of trainings and other capacity building measures in this sector.

Professional experience:
Anja Haupt has been working at Renewables Academy (RENAC) AG since February 2008. She has been contributing to a broad range of capacity building projects. Anja has been leading the activities of RENAC Mexico by establishing a training center for solar technologies in the country, has been working as consultant at the Export Initiative Renewables Made in Germany, and has also been working as lecturer for communication-related topics. In the beginnings of the company she had set-up the PR and marketing department, by establishing the corporate communication strategy, setting up the corporate image and communication channels and implementing corresponding measures such as developing RENAC’s marketing materials.

Education:
Anja has a degree in cultural studies from Bauhaus University more recently an MSc in Renewable Energies from the HAW Hamburg. Anja has lived and worked in the USA, Italy, Spain and Thailand, and speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French and Russian.
Bernd Wollwerth-Carl, RENAC
Current position:
Bernd Wollwerth-Carl has been working in different fields of renewable energies for almost 20 years and has been with Renewables Academy (RENAC) AG since March 2017. At RENAC he leads the Solar Energy department and in this role he gives lectures, runs seminars and workshops, and coordinates all solar energy projects.

Professional experience:
After finishing his studies, Bernd started working in different fields of bioenergy (process engineering of biodiesel plants, operation of biogas plants, R&D for biogas liquefaction, etc.). In 2003 he joined the German Energy Agency (dena) where he was responsible for the bioenergy sector within the “Export Initiative Renewable Energies”. Here he implemented several large projects including the first PV roof top project of dena’s “solar roof program” in Athens. Later he worked for an energy supply company where he designed, developed and implemented bioenergy heat supply projects all over Germany. Thereafter he worked for three years as manager of the bioenergy department and later as International Sector Manager “Energy Companies” for the consulting company Ecofys GmbH where he implemented several large bioenergy studies. In 2009 he founded the company KWA Eviva GmbH and worked there as CEO as well as project developer for large-scale PV power plants in Germany, in Turkey and further countries abroad. At KWA Eviva GmbH he realized several large-scale ground-mounted PV plants.

Education:
Bernd has a diploma in Environmental Engineering.
Frank Jackson, RENAC
Current position:
Currently Frank runs a range of courses for people who are getting involved in the renewable energy industry and more specialised courses for solar electricity.

Professional experience:
Frank Jackson is an expert solar photovoltaic trainer and has been involved in the solar energy industry since the early 1990s, running courses and seminars, designing and installing systems, and more recently active in publishing. He has worked in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Kenya, Tanzania and Somalia. Besides training activities, he has also designed and installed numerous photovoltaic systems (both off-grid and grid-tied).

Education:
Frank Jackson studied 1992 Photovoltaics and Development at the University of East London, and Electrical Installation Competences at the City & Guilds London Institute, London & Wales.
Lars Koerner, RENAC
Current position:
Lars Koerner joined Renewables Academy (RENAC) AG in May 2014 as Project Director. He coordinates and conducts training programs at Renewables Academy (RENAC) AG mainly in the field of solar energy systems. Off-grid systems and PV-Diesel-Hybrid mini-grids for rural electrification or industrial applications are his special interest.

Professional experience:
Before joining RENAC Lars gained seven years of experience as project engineer and senior product manager at SolarWorld AG where he also managed several rural electrification projects. His experience in the area of solar energy spans further through his work at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Almeria, Spain and Fraunhofer ISE in Freiburg, Germany. He is an expert in sizing and simulation of solar energy systems and the co-author on off-grid systems in Earthscan’s 3rd edition of “Planning and Installing Photovoltaic Systems”.

Education:
Lars holds an engineering diploma in Environmental Engineering / Renewable Energies and is also a state-licensed electrician.
Mario Alabi Ramos, Dyscresa
Current position:
Mario Alabi has been working in different fields of renewable energies. Since 2015 he worked as lecturer for RENAC and runs lectures in small hydro, Hybrid Diesel PV, wind turbines and solar thermal.

Professional experience:
In 2017 he collaborates in the construction of a 5MW solar PV park.

Education:
Mario has a Master in Business Administration and a Bachelor in Electronic Engineering.
Matthis Brinkhaus, RENAC
Current position:
Matthis Brinkhaus joined the Renewables Academy (RENAC) AG in September 2013. He was working first as a project assistant in the advanced online training of the capacity building programme on renewable energy & grid integration (ReGrid). Since June 2015 he has been working as a project manager in the three-year capacity building programme on renewable energy & grid integration (CapREG). He mainly develops new learning materials for the online training but he is also involved in face-to-face trainings and development of mobile exhibitions.

Professional experience:
Before joining RENAC, Matthis gained experience in different fields of energy at home and abroad. He worked for a German company developing hydrogen fuel cells, for a consultancy of the Indian solar market based in New Delhi and for a German company involved in micro-energy projects.

Education:
Matthis Brinkhaus studied Engineering and Business Management. He did his Bachelor of Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Ansbach and his Master of Science at the Technical University of Berlin, graduating in May 2015. Throughout his studies he focussed on energy technology and energy economics. In his Master thesis he investigated the Indian balancing power market. Matthis speaks German and English and has advanced knowledge in French.
