  • Solar radiation data retrieval and analysis
  • Solar thermal collector types and large-scale system components
  • Large-scale system configurations (open/closed, direct/indirect)
  • Large-scale system design (collector and store sizing, collector array configurations, flow rate, pressures, pump sizing, stagnation, expansion vessel sizing)
  • System simulation using TSol
  • Practical installation and operation considerations (commissioning, fault-finding)
  • Project management and system economics

Learning objectives

After the seminar, participants will be able to:

  • Understand advantages and disadvantages of different solar thermal system types
  • Be able to design a large-scale solar thermal system
  • Have hands-on experience with system commissioning and fault-finding
  • Be able to perform an economic analysis of a large-scale solar thermal installation
