The Green Energy Finance Specialist (GEFS) for Large-Scale Projects blended learning programme helps participants gain comprehensive expertise in financing renewable energy and energy efficiency projects through an immersion in both theory and practice. It is an advanced training programme designed for professionals seeking in-depth expertise in renewable finance and investment strategies for large-scale projects. This programme trains participants to master green energy finance and get an internationally accredited energy finance certificate. The GEFS programme is a combination of a 5-month online training plus a 3-day final seminar, to be taken either virtually or in-person in Berlin (travel costs are not included in the scholarship).


LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After completing the training programme, participants should be able to:

  • Evaluate renewable energy and energy efficiency projects
  • Structure renewable energy and energy efficiency finance projects
  • Understand the principles of renewable energy investing
  • Use financial models and develop term sheets for RE and EE projects
  • Develop and evaluate portfolios of RE and EE projects
  • Interpret financial models for wind, solar and biogas
  • Navigate renewable energy lending processes and investor expectations
  • Appraise an energy efficiency project in detail, including the use of an ESCO model
  • Optimize financing strategies with debt, equity and green bonds
  • Understand policies, incentives and climate finance mechanisms
  • Identify options for international climate finance and how to access funds

Scholarship details

As the GEFS blended learning programme has already been established commercially for many years, it is only available for co-financing within the Green Banking project scholarships. Indeed, the scholarships covers EUR 1600 netto of the programme’s costs for selected participants, out of the EUR 3200 total price. Participants are expected to finance the rest individually.
