GGF GREEN ACADEMY AND RENAC PILOT ONLINE TRAINING IN GREEN FINANCE

First training included more than 40 participants from almost all countries of the GGF’s target regions of the Eastern Neighbourhood and Southeast Europe

Luxembourg and Berlin, 1 August, 2019

The Technical Assistance Facility of the Green for Growth Fund, an impact investment fund advised by Finance in Motion, has partnered with Renewables Academy AG (RENAC), to pilot the GGF Green Finance Expert online training in green finance. This innovative training aims to enhance the technical expertise of bankers – representatives of GGF partner institutions, directly involved in on-lending of financing provided by the GGF to identify investments that have a positive environmental impact.

GGF Chairman Olaf Zymelka said: “When the pilot training was designed, we were aiming for 30 participants but have ended up with more than 40 from 16 partner institutions from almost all countries of our target region of Eastern Neighbourhood and Southeast Europe. This shows the high demand for trainings on green finance topics.”

The online training consists of five modules, which include an introduction to green finance and provide participants with the ability to assess energy efficiency and renewable energy projects from technical, economic, as well as environmental and social perspectives.

Each module is complemented by virtual classes where participants determine their own pace and can directly address tutors with questions and interact among others enrolled in the same course. Participants that excel in their module and successfully complete the training and exam will then qualify as certified GGF Green Finance Experts and receive a certificate issued by the Green Academy and RENAC.

Lloyd Stevens, Director at GGF Advisor - Finance in Motion, added: “This training is a new capacity-building program brought by the Green Academy and RENAC for GGF partners. Responding to the high demand from partners, the Green Academy will continue providing more online, in-house and external trainings to drive green growth in the region.”

Berthold Breid, Director of RENAC, said: “The training helps financial institutions to secure the economics of projects and to avoid technology specific risks. The efforts invested in the training will pay off quickly, for the financial institutions and the investment fund.”
